Wrecks The Isle of Man has its own Receiver of Wrecks. All finds must be declared, and the crew of the Endeavour will issue you with official declaration forms. You should be advised that it is illegal to remove any artefacts from wrecks in Manx Territorial Waters. Unless you believe that a find may be damaged by remaining on a dive site, you are requested not to remove any items. The Receiver of Wrecks may board the vessel at any time and seize and confiscate items.
The crew of the Endeavour have a good working relationship with the Receiver. We encourage you to adopt a “look but don’t take” approach to wreck diving.
Seafood There is a closed season for Scallops which runs from June 1st to October 31st. There are minimum landing sizes for scallops. There are also closed areas around Port Erin and Douglas Bays where it is illegal for anyone to remove scallops at any time of the year. The crew will advise you.
There is a catch limit for crabs and lobsters. You are not allowed to take any berried lobsters, nor any with notched tails.
For a full set of regulations regarding harvesting from the sea, please ask the crew of the Endeavour or the staff at Discover Diving, who will be happy to provide you with further information.
Basking Sharks Discover Diving and Endeavour have attended the Wildlife Safe Operators Course and are proud to be members of WISE. We abide by the Basking Shark Code of Conduct and divers will not be permitted to recklessly endanger or interfere with basking sharks.
However, sometimes you can’t avoid them in the water. Look out for them on safety stops or while you are waiting to be picked up by the boat. Basking sharks will avoid divers, and move away from anyone who swims towards them. Switch to your snorkel and hang still in the water to have the best chance of seeing them. Please be aware that they are massive creatures (up to 10m long) and if startled can move with some speed. The flick of their tail can be dangerous if you are in the way.
